The average Australian Football league crowd is 37,282, which is approximately 20,000 more than its “competition” code NRL at 17,831. This average attendance makes AFL the 4th most popular domestic sporting league in the world based on crowd size, behind the NFL (68,240), IPL (~58,000) and Bundesliga (42,565), and surpassing the EPL (36,076) and MLB (32,539).

This equates to an attendance per million population of 1,711 making the AFL twice as popular to the next most attended league adjusted for population (the Canadian Football League at 856).
